LRIT REQUEST
Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) is an essential part of maritime communications. It enables the transmission of a vessel’s identity, position and the time at which that position was reported, allowing authorised authorities to monitor vessels over long distances. By making this information available through the appropriate channels, LRIT supports maritime safety, security and the effective oversight of vessels operating internationally.
At TRC Marine, we bring our marine electronics and satellite communications expertise to your LRIT enquiries. We understand that an LRIT request may arise for different reasons: you may need support with an existing installation, assistance in investigating a technical issue, or guidance on the information required before taking the next step. Our team will review the details you provide and help identify the support appropriate to your vessel’s situation.
The International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) SOLAS V/19-1 Regulation requires:
•All passenger ships including high speed craft.
•Cargo ships of 300 gross tonnage and above.
•Mobile offshore drilling units.
Automatically transmit every 6 hours the following LRIT information:
•Identify of the ship.
•The position of the ship (latitude and longitude).
•The date and time of the position provided.
Ship owners requirements:
•To equip their ships with LRIT compliant terminals.
•To have their LRIT terminal tested by an authorized testing ASP and obtain a Conformance Test Report (CTR).
•To carry the CTR on board at all times.
•To maintain the ship borne equipment reporting at all times except in particular conditions.
•To notify Flag if the ship will not be reporting for any length of time (Suspension).
